Wikipedia describes a hackerspace as a place where people with common interests, usually in science, technology, or digital or electronic art can meet, socialize and collaborate. A hackerspace can be viewed as an open community lab, workbench, machine shop, workshop and/or studio where people of diverse backgrounds can come together to share resources and knowledge to build/make things.

In Cincinnati, Hive13 is such a place. People interested in laser cutting, 3D printing, fabrication, microprocessors, hacking, software and other fun stuff. You can check this list out for hackerspaces that might be in your area to visit. Most of the time guests can attend events free to check things out and then join the space for a monthly membership fee (Cincinnati is $50 a month). Membership gives you 24 hour access to the facility to work on your projects and to collaborate with others, and any other benefit bestowed to the general membership.
